I've been researching figurines on
Royal Pottery Collection and have

realized that I'm interested and relate more to the works by Lladro and Herend. I like th

e animal figurines that Herend has produced and the more recent works. I've been studying the way they depict birds and how they sculpt features and fur. I've come to realize that my approach of removing this detail is correct in accordance as to how contemporary figures are depicted. I have been looking at the proportions of the figurines of Lladro and the surface treatement of these figurines as it is an area I need to work on. I am constantly

searching on how to decorate my ceramic work. Messein work is also interested, and the children figurines are interesting. I have learned much about gravity in smaller figures. I've moslty worked large and have learned how to

overcome gravity when hanging a large wall piece, but now it is about how to balance a large, fat body on skinny legs. I see that figurines mostly always have something alongside their figure to help support them. I have changed my figure from standing to sitting to accomodate gravity.
